UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP details

Two scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $1000.00, and are for one year only.  Past winners are not eligible.  Applications will be accepted annually from January 1 until March 31.  Applications are available on-line at the ALATA website (alata.org) or upon request from the scholarship committee chairperson.  The scholarship committee consists of three representatives of ALATA. The winners will be selected based on a combination of academic achievement, financial need, character, and athletic training abilities. The winners will be notified prior to the annual ALATA meeting in May. Announcement of the winners and awarding of the scholarships will occur during the Hall of Fame Banquet.

CRITERIA

  1. The applicant must have worked as a student athletic trainer for a period of at least two years at the collegiate level.
  2. The applicant must be enrolled in an approved athletic training curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree.
  3. The applicant must have at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. 
  4. A certified athletic trainer who is a current member in good standing with the ALATA, SEATA, and NATA must sponsor the applicant.
  5. The applicant cannot be currently receiving any type of full scholarship.  
  6. It must be the intent of the applicant to pursue the profession of athletic training as a career.  
  7. The applicant must be a student member in good standing of ALATA, and NATA.
  8.  The applicant must submit a statement from the registrar of his or her university indicating the applicant's current GPA through the most recently completed school term.
  9. The applicant must request three letters of recommendation be sent to the ALATA Committee Chairperson.  One of the three letters should be from either the head of your academic department, a professor, or counselor.  Your supervising athletic trainer should write one letter, and the third letter should come from anyone else you feel could best judge your abilities and qualities. 
  10. The applicant is required to submit a one-page biography of themselves, which should include a statement on their philosophy of athletic training, as well as why they feel they deserve the scholarship. 
  11. The applicant must have his/her supervising athletic trainer complete the attached evaluation sheet, and submit this directly to the ALATA committee chairperson with their recommendation.

  1.  The applicant must be currently working as a graduate assistant athletic trainer or as a student athletic trainer  in an approved athletic training graduate program 
  2. The applicant must be a hold a bachelors degree in athletic training from an approved undergraduate curriculum and be enrolled in a graduate level degree program; or hold a bachelor’s degree, and be enrolled in an approved entry level masters program in athletic training  
  3. The applicant must have at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
